Missouri’s New Paid Sick Leave Law:

Beginning May 1, 2025 a new law will require most employers in Missouri to provide up to 56 hours of paid sick leave annually to their employees. Non-compliance with the Missouri Earned Paid Sick Time (EPST) could result in legal action or penalties so it will be important to review your paid leave policies.

  • Who’s Covered? All Missouri employers except government entities.
  • Who’s Eligible? Most employees. This does not apply to service and retail employees of businesses with less than $500,000 in annual revenue.
  • Accrual Rate: Employees earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked.
  • Usage: Can be used for personal or family illness, medical care, public health emergencies, and domestic violence-related reasons.
  • Carryover: Employers must allow unused hours to roll over or provide a payout alternative.
  • Employer Compliance: Workplace notices must be posted by April 15, 2025, and records of EPST usage must be maintained for three years.
