In the early years, Pierce built the agency on trust. Clients stayed, referred their neighbors, and returned with bigger problems to solve. As their needs grew, so did we. The agency expanded beyond personal coverage into commercial insurance. POWERS earned the credibility to grow beyond its own four walls. In 2006, the agency launched Valley Insurance Agency Alliance (VIAA), an insurance network and consulting firm that extended its expertise to independent agents across Missouri and Illinois.

In 2017, POWERS Insurance broke ground on a three-story building in St. Louis and rebranded as POWERS Insurance & Risk Management. The name change reflected the agency's evolution. Personal lines had laid the foundation, while risk management would shape everything moving forward.

Our story begins in 1991 with a simple idea: give more than you take. That principle sparked a purpose that still drives POWERS Insurance & Risk Management today. After a serious accident forced Pierce Powers to rebuild his life, he found a new purpose in helping others protect their futures. He opened POWERS Insurance in St. Louis, focusing on personal lines coverage.

The next decade brought steady growth and a purposeful leadership change. In 2015, Pierce’s son, JD Powers, was promoted to President. JD had established his own career before taking on the role. A few years later, Pierce and Sue Powers handed over ownership to three of their six children: JD, Elizabeth, and Henry. Each one oversees a different part of the business.

Over the next ten years, we focused on innovation. POWERS Insurance established dedicated divisions for bonds, cannabis, and emerging industries, including cyber and green energy risk management. Then, in 2022, the agency launched Leif. It’s an exclusive program for contractors where artificial intelligence provides real-time risk management.

The insurance industry is rapidly changing, and POWERS Insurance adopts technology and AI to serve our clients better. Instead of viewing innovation as a threat, we see it as a tool to train our team and reduce repetitive tasks. However, technology can never replace relationships. Our people remain the reason clients choose POWERS Insurance.

Over the years, the mission has never changed. We challenge the status quo to bring clarity and protect the financial well-being of our clients, their employees, and families.
